Two quotes for "fly ash bricks" can differ a lot and still both be fair — because they are often not quoting the same thing. Before comparing prices, make sure you are comparing the same brick, the same quantity and the same delivery.
What changes the price
| Factor | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| Quantity | Bulk loads cost less per brick than small orders — a full lorry is cheaper per brick than a part load. |
| Delivery distance | Transport is a large share of the delivered price. Sites further from the plant cost more per load. |
| Unloading | Some quotes include unloading at site, others charge it separately. |
| Strength class | Higher compressive strength needs more cement — check the class the quote is for. |
| Curing | Properly cured bricks have spent more time in the yard. Uncured "fresh" bricks are cheaper but weaker. |
| Size | Standard 9" × 4" × 3" is the common size; other sizes are priced differently. |
| Billing | A GST invoice and proper documentation are part of what you are paying for. |
How to compare two quotes
- Ask for the price per 1,000 bricks, delivered to your site — not the price per brick at the yard.
- Confirm unloading is included, or add it to the quote that excludes it.
- Ask which IS 12894 strength class the bricks meet, and for the test report.
- Check the minimum order and whether a part load costs extra.
- Make sure the quote is with a GST invoice.
Why the cheapest brick is rarely the cheapest wall
A brick that is under-cured or uneven in size breaks more on site and needs thicker mortar and plaster to hide the joints. The few rupees saved per brick are often spent again on cement, sand and labour. Uniform, fully cured bricks keep the wall cost down even if the brick price is slightly higher.
